  • In Love and in Politics

    Some thoughts...

If you are single and genuinely love Singapore and love Singaporean women, and would like to call Singapore home then I can say that you have a battle plan at hand and half the battle won.

Not every Singaporean woman is ready to accept a Singaporean guy who possesses 'patriotic' traits about his country. And if you are one of them, I salute you! With great pain, comes great love.

And I'm not speaking of patriotism as in how a guy likes going to the National Day Parade or if he's an SAF regular working in the airforce, or some guy who works for a Government Link Corporation - It has nothing to do with his job, in fact it's got to do with every bit of his belief system, and that this belief may or may not terrify a Singaporean woman.

Not every Singaporean woman can distinguish between pro-government and anti-establishment views. For those who have been peppered with horror stories by their government fearing parents, any subject about garment is taboo and will threaten to desecrate their 'romantic' faith. Unless she's on the same page as you are, you can remain platonic till the cows come home. And besides, she has other things to worry about like Jimmy Choo and Kate Spade. So got no time for other garment issues.

Singapore women enjoy complaining about men. Money not enough. Muscle not enough. Brains not enough. Romance not enough. Men are this and men are that because they did this and the did that.

'They are scum' some would say. 'Men are bastards' also one of them. But let's imagine that a positive romantic possibility (dating) comes to a complete halt when she suddenly discovers that her male counterpart has got some 'passionate' issues with the incumbent government.

For some Singaporean women, discussion about why our 'housing' neccessity is exorbitantly high is question only for gods and higher mortals to answer let only discuss about CPF, TH, GIC, TC.

Once you see your date's eye darting quickly from left to right, checking out the publics respond while you talk about how 'MM Lee and PM Lee are board directors in our SWF and still hold political positions, and how Ho Ching as wife is CEO of Temsak Holdings' you know you have to hold you horses. Political verbal diarrhoea is a no no.

It is therefore a very critical and a delicate part of the dating process because like any other 'logical' Singapore woman, you could be seen as a 'Dr Chee' with his 'protests' in her head, and relegated to the friend zone.

IMHO I believe it can help us be better Singaporeans and not just settle for any girlfriend/wife but discover the women who hold true to the same beliefs as you have held yours. And when you put a criteria on your love interest, you begin to set out looking for her.

By this same belief system, you possess a better moral compass to pick and choose. If you happen to be in a social gathering, flirt with all good will. Be the most bad ass you can be. But treat her right. And in the course of all that ask her how she feels about being a Singaporean woman. You know the rest. :)

    amen brother!

finding a singapore woman who is politically aware is harder than finding one who just loves u for what u are (v v hard already). haha.

anyway i think its because they have since young been mostly sheltered from the financial/ns/etc impacts of all the govt's behgan policies by their fathers/bf/husbands.

@anonymous - Yo yo! Hmmm the belief system is leaving the soul of most Singaporeans. For those who haven't had their eyes 'opened', we can't blame them. We only have to walk with them and show them the way. Thanks for dropping by! :)
